Failure – an important part of your journey.

Failure – an important part of your journey.

Let’s talk about failures. No one likes it. Everyone went through it at least once in life. It is an unavoidable part of our lives. What good can failure bring you? Can it be good at all? Why do you need to fail? Can you use failure to your advantage? How? Enjoy this material to find out more.

What can help avoid failure?

Going on a journey or holiday, especially a long one, to some new place, you prepare yourself, checking different information about it, right? You check the weather in this place. What is around that area worth sightseeing? What documents you will need. If you need any specific vaccinations for that area. And even though, still you will take some extra bits and pieces. Like, if you know, that you are going to, let say Greece, Spain or Italy, still, you might take a warm set of clothes, just in case. You might pack a first aid with you. And any other things you might think that you will need.

A similar situation is when you prepare for an interview, for the first day of school or for a driving test. You are trying to find out and eliminate, as many as possible, factors that might be unfavourable. Still, not always this is possible and you might miss something. Even if you prepare yourself thinking, that you cover all gaps, it might happen that you fail. Sometimes, no matter how amazing an expert you are, how well you prepare yourself, things might go not the way you would wish. Life can be pretty surprising at some points.

I know this might be discouraging and you might think now – So, what is the point of preparing? If I can not predict and prepare for every possibility. If I can not for a certain set myself for success. Maybe better would be, just save that time, spend it on something else, something pleasant, like playing games, watching movies or partying with friends, and go unprepared? Is that really a good approach? What do you think? Will being completely unprepared makes you feel better? Less stressed? More relaxed? Is it something that will make your life test easier?

Why do you might fail?

Skipping that fact of going completely unprepared. We have discovered, that no matter how good you will try to prepare, there is always a chance, that you might fail. And no matter how disheartening this might sound for you now, well, this is just a normal part of life. You might avoid some of the failures, but not all of them. And that’s one of the important points to make. To avoid at least some of the failures, preparation is necessary. This is the reason you, even if it looks like you are doomed, still want to make yourself ready.

Your failing might be and usually is caused, not because you forget about something, or you did not do something, omit some of the preparation points from a preparation TODO list. Usually, it happens because you did not have a chance to know all factors of the event you are going to or through. Moreover, something unpredictable might happen. Yet, would you like to worry about the things that you, most likely have no control over? Or rather you would prefer to look forward to the event you are going to. Being positive about that you have done everything, that was in your power, to handle it.

There might be many more factors for failures. Nevertheless, important is how you react to that. Do you want to be defined by this? When do you will understand that failing is not you? That you are not the failure. That, ok you fail but it is not you. Not your definition. This is just a part of everyone, including me and you, life. I like saying by John C. Maxwell. It goes like that – “Fail early, fail often, but always fail forward.” This way you see what you are getting to hit into, and you might have a chance to react and protect yourself, at least a little.

How can failure be your success?

The most important thing for you to understand is that failure is formative. It is a process, that all of us needs to go through. Even if it might be unpleasant or threatening. If you will look at your failures as lessons, how this will affect your perception of them? Are the failures, still so scary? Being conscious that, it is ok to fail. And that this is just a lesson, that will make you wiser, more aware, stronger. How do you feel now about failing?

When I realise, that, I can not avoid all failures and find out, that they are actually necessary for me to grow. I started to look forward to failing. This is, not the only, but in my opinion, the best way to transform yourself. To transform, to improve your life. If you will hide, run away from them, you will allow yourself to be locked in a cage. Do you want to spend your life in a cage? No matter if it is invisible and might be quite comfy. Do you like the idea of spending the rest of your life locked? Not being able to grow, enjoy and experience life in full?

Remember also one more thing, be kind to yourself when you fail. Understand, that it is no one’s fault. It is just a part of life and it happens to make you a better person. As result make your life better. So, when you slip, learn from that. Look why did you fail. What you could do differently. What do you want to do differently the next time around? Treat yourself with kindness and compassion, like a loving parent its child, who learn something new. And let me know, in the comment section, how do you feel, changing your perspective of failure. How your life changed.

Conclusion

We spoke briefly about what is and why you might fail. We determine that failure is nothing more than a lesson, to make you more aware and to help you improve yourself and your life.
